KEVIN Lewis is every inch the urbane, cosmopolitan screenwriter. Personable and friendly, he’s also free of your average film exec’s polished patter. However, his movie script for The Kid, a heartbreaking yet inspiring tale of one boy’s ultimate triumph over a brutal, abusive childhood and an adolescence careering towards self-destruction, is hardly a work of fiction.

Nick is actor and filmmaker Nick Moran, who directs a stellar British cast: Rupert Friend is Kevin as a young man, the beautiful Natascha McElhone, unrecognisable as his vicious mother Gloria, Con O’Neill is his monosyllabic, alcoholic father Dennis, Jodie Whitaker is his girlfriend Jackie (now Kevin’s wife) and Ioan Gruffudd, a sharp-eyed, caring primary school teacher.
Kevin stayed away when childhood scenes were filming. “I had a problem with Natasha, in reality the loveliest lady, because after she’d been in make-up she looked just like Gloria. It was such a shock and I walked off the set when I heard her as Gloria shouting.”

THIS film was written by a guy who used to get punched in the face for a living.

Hi Annee,
I have just recently become a fan of Ioan Gruffudd, after having seen him in Amazing Grace. He is such a great actor, who also happens to be very good looking :-).
While searching for further information on his previous roles, I found your blog. Thank you for collecting so much information and making it available for other people.
Keep up the good work :-)!
L.
